Race Info
Thanks for signing up to race Sydenham Hill in the inaugural Max’s Big Climb to defeat Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
Below is some information to help make tomorrow run smoothly and hopefully answer some questions you might have.
Check In
Please come to Shawn & Ed’s Brewing at 65 Hatt Street in Dundas to pick up your race plate and review your start time between 6:00 am - 7:00 am. Real coffee and butter tarts from Dyment’s will also be available.
You must check in here before racing. We will be closing check in at 7:00 sharp. Riders who miss check in may not be able to race, so please be on time to avoid disappointment.
If you are late due to circumstances beyond your control, please come to the start line and we will do our best to accommodate you, but there are no guarantees.
There are toilets at the brewery - they will be open for the duration of the event.
Race Day Registrations
If you have friends who are still interested in riding but have not registered, we will be doing race day registrations at the brewery from 6:00 - 6:45am. We cannot process any racers after 6:45, so please let them know to get there early. Cash and credit card will be accepted.
Parking
Please park your vehicle near the brewery and ride up to the course - there is no parking at the lookout and it is very limited near the course. We’d also like to keep the neighbours happy :)
There is parking available in the lot beside Shawn & Ed’s Brewing at 65 Hatt St, Dundas. It is free on Saturday. If this lot is full, there is also a free municipal lot further along at Hatt Street and Creekside Drive. The race start line is approximately 800 metres from the brewery.
The lookout at the top of the climb will be closed to traffic during the race. If your friends or family want to come and watch, they should park above the course just off Glendrummond Drive and walk back down.
Start Line
Start times will be posted this evening at www.racetiming.ca and also on https://raceroster.com/events/2016/8892/maxs-big-climb.
Please remember that no matter your start time, you must check in at Shawn & Ed’s Brewing between 6:00 - 7:00. If you do not check in, you will not be able to race.
The start line is on Sydenham Road just past Crowley Court. Racing will start at exactly 7:15. Please come to the start area at least 15 minutes before your posted start time. If you miss your start time we cannot give you another during that round.
Riders will set off at 30 second intervals and will be lined up 10 deep at the start.
We will have a holder to keep you upright and will have water, sports drink and bananas at the start line.
We will also have two paramedics at the race in case anyone needs medical attention.
On Course
Please stay to the right on the course unless you are passing the rider ahead.
Please pass on the left.
There is no drafting allowed in the individual time trial section of the race.
Drafting is only permitted in the head to head races for the King and Queen of the Mountain.
Each rider will have two chances to ride an individual time trial up the hill. We will use your best time to determine your placing. The top four men and four women overall will advance to the knockout rounds.
Finish Line
Once you cross the finish line, please continue riding through the chalked section to keep this area clear for other finishers.
You can go into the parking lot to check your time, grab some water or watch other riders, or you can wait for a break in the car traffic and go back down the hill.
Please be aware that while the racing lane is closed, there is live traffic beside you running both up and down the mountain. Please be careful when crossing the road.
You can check the times live during the race on www.racetiming.ca. The seeding for the knockout rounds will also be posted here.
Awards
We will be giving out the King and Queen of the Mountain trophies and the age category ribbons at Shawn & Ed Brewery at 10:45. We hope that you’ll come down and cheer on your fellow competitors. We will also be selling raffle tickets for two amazing prizes - dinner at Quatrefoil in Dundas and dinner at Brux House on Locke St, Hamilton.
Please let me know if you have any questions at all. We are looking forward to a great event tomorrow.
Finally - hydrate tonight, it is going to hot and humid tomorrow!
Thanks,
Andrew
