Max's Big Ride 2017
This year Max and Andrew will reverse their route and ride the 600 km from Hamilton to Ottawa along the Waterfront Trail aboard their trusty cargo bike to raise money for research into a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy via the registered charity Jesse's Journey.
Max and his dad will set off from Hamilton on Sunday, June 4 and arrive on Parliament Hill at noon on Monday, June 12.
Max's supporters are invited to join him Sunday, June 4 on the first ever Ice Cream Ride - a 25 km fun ride from Hamilton's Bayfront Park to Burlington's Spencer Smith Park and back. Participants will be rewarded with two delicious frozen treats from Rudy’s, a tasty lunch from Cake & Loaf at the completion of the ride and a finisher’s ribbon for their efforts.
Max's Big Ride is very excited to announce that they and Jesse's Journey have partnered with the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) to direct the proceeds from this year’s ride to the establishment of a doctoral fellowship in the internationally-recognized Gunning Group Lab at UTM. The fellowship recipient will evaluate the effectiveness of the group’s STAT3 inhibitors in animal models of Duchenne. The group hopes to find ways of not only preventing the muscle atrophy that characterizes the disease, but also reversing existing damage, so that those confined to a wheelchair can regain their mobility.
